Donald Glover ‘Honored’ to Play Young Lando Calrissian

Donald Glover has broken his silence after the announcement that he landed the role as as young Lando Calrissian in the upcoming Han Solo-centered standalone Star Wars film.

The 33-year-old talent stopped by Ellen to chat about his newest role and told the host that he’s “honored” to be able to portray the character that was made iconic by Billy Dee Williams in the Star Wars trilogy. “It’s really crazy. I’m very, like, honored. It’s a very big deal. There’s this thing going around on the internet of me in a Star Wars t-shirt from when I was in high school, so it’s been a long thing.”

Even more serendipitous is the fact that Donald’s first toy ever was none other than a Lando figurine. “That was the first toy I had-Lando,” he said. “The very first, I remember it like yesterday. My dad gave it to me, I had a Darth Vader one too. I told my dad immediately and he was like ‘Aw!’ and my mom was in the background and she was like ‘Don’t mess it up!'”

Glover will star opposite Alden Ehrenreich, who was cast as young Han Solo in the untitled project, which is set for release in 2018.
