Denzel Washington is bringing Fences to theaters and now we finally have our first look at the movie.

The film adaptation of the August Wilson-penned Broadway classic stars Washington and Viola Davis (who are reprising their roles from their Broadway performances) and follows the story of an African American father struggling with race relations in the United State while trying to raise his family in the 1950s and coming to term with the events of his life. Along with Washington and Davis, Fences stars Mykelti Williamson (Underground), Russell Hornsby (Grimm), Saniyya Sidney (Hidden Figures) and many more.

The new stills give fans a first look at Denzel as Troy Maxson and Viola Davis as his wife Rose Maxson, as well as a peek at Stephen McKinley Henderson as Jim Bono:

The movie version of Fences took quite some time to get off of the ground, in part because playwright Wilson was adamant that the film be directed by an African-American. Thankfully, Washington stepped up to the job.

Fences heads to theaters everywhere on Christmas Day (Dec. 25).
