HBO Drops First Trailer for Issa Rae’s ‘Insecure’

insecure-hbo-trailer The first trailer for Issa Rae’s Insecure, which is loosely based on her hit Youtube series Awkward Black Girl, is hilarious, witty and most importantly portrays a different side of the black girl experience.

The series stars Rae, whose character is also named Issa, as she navigates her life as a young, black, female millennial living life in South LA. One of the show’s main focuses is on Issa’s friendship with Molly (Yvonne Orji), her best friend who’s her polar opposite.

“It’s so important to show that black women do have friends,” Rae told Variety in a recent interview. “We’re not all just fighting and punching each other and cursing each other out and ending up on the Shade Room together.”

While Rae’s definitely excited for people to see the show, she revealed that she does have a clear-cut ending in mind for it, intending to tell a “good, finite, close-ended story.” She ideally would want the show to end after “two to three seasons.”

“I don’t wanna have 15 seasons, 10 seasons,” she told the site.
