Empire star Taraji P.Henson was chosen to be honored by Women in Film and took the opportunity to bring attention to a platform that’s important to women everywhere in a way only she could.

The 45-year-old actress was invited to the ceremony to be honored with the Lucy Award for Excellence in Television

People had the chance to speak with Henson at the 2016 Women In Film Crystal + Lucy Awards and when they asked her what advice she had for women, her answer was one straight out of the Cookie Lyon playbook. “Just don’t take no shi*t,” she told the mag. “You know, know you have a voice. Know that your voice is important, and fight until it’s heard. That’s what I did.”

During the ceremony, Henson used her time in the spotlight to address unequal pay and urge women in all industries to fight for their right to make as much money as their male counterparts. “If I do just as good a job as men, why shouldn’t I get paid the same?” she said, much to the approval of the audience, according to People. “Is it because I don’t have a penis? In this day and age I can attach one. I have penises in many different colors at home.”

If there’s one thing Cookie and Taraji have in common, it’s that they both keep it real.
