Obamas To Miss Muhammad Ali’s Funeral to Attend Malia’s Graduation

Muhammad Ali ObamasPresident Obama and the First Lady will not be attending boxing great Muhammad Ali’s memorial service this Friday- they’ll be watching their oldest daughter graduate from high school instead.

The Obamas had to decide between the scheduling conflict of the century- attend the funeral of one of the greatest athletes of all time, or watch their oldest daughter graduate from Sidwell Friends School. Proving that supporting the family will always take precedence over other duties, the couple opted to attend the matriculation ceremony, Time has reported.

Although he won’t be there in the flesh, President Obama has reportedly already called Ali’s widow Lonnie to offer his condolences to her and the family.

If you aren’t able to attend The Champ’s homegoing ceremonies either, you can still watch them from your home. BET will be covering Ali’s memorial service live one Friday June 10.

BET News correspondent Marc Lamont Hill will anchor live coverage of the memorial service. Hill will be joined in studio by special guests to share reflections and provide cultural commentary. BET Networks will also broadcast and encore airing of BET News’ The Truth Series documentary Muhammad Ali: The People’s Champ at 1PM ET on BET and Centric.

BET Remembers Muhammad Ali: The Memorial Service airs Friday, June 10 at 2 PM ET on BET and CENTRIC commercial-free and LIVE stream on BET.com and the BET Now App.
