Prince cause of deathPrince’s unexpected death stunned the world and now his official cause of death has been released.

The singer was found dead at his Paisley Park estate on April 21, and initially was thought to have been suffering from “flu-like symptoms” or “pneumonia.”

The Associated Press has now confirmed that the 57-year-old music legend died of an opioid overdose.

The news comes from a source who is close to the investigation but “spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media.”

Also according to AP, officials are still investigating the source of the overdose, and looking into whether a doctor was prescribing him the drugs that ultimately lead to his demise.

Prince’s estate is still being sorted out, as the artist didn’t have a living will, but there have been talks of his Paisley Park home being made into a 65,000 square foot museum, an idea that his ex-girlfriend and close friend Sheila E says he would certainly have been behind. “[He] was working on it being a museum,” she said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “He’s been gathering memorabilia and stuff from all the tours, like my drums and his motorcycle.
