NBA Athlete Bryce Dejean-Jones Shot and Killed After Entering Wrong Apartment

Bryce Dejean Jones shot dead
NBA player Bryce Dejean-Jones was shot and killed in Dallas, TX after accidentally entering the wrong apartment.

According to Dallas Police spokesman DeMarquis Black, the 23-year-old New Orleans Pelicans rookie guard kicked in the front door of the apartment, thinking it was his girlfriend’s, when the resident said “he called out to the individual, but was not answered.” Dejean-Jones then reportedly kicked in the bedroom door as well, and that was when the resident fired. He collapsed in the hallway, but succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. “There is no information that suggests the deceased Bryce Dejean-Jones knew the apartment resident, or was armed as he entered the apartment,” Black said.

The player’s agent told CNN that Dejean-Jones was in Dallas to visit his girlfriend and attend his daughter’s first birthday. It was the athlete’s first time visiting the apartment and we simply went into the wrong one that evening.

The NBA has since released a statement sending their condolences to Dejean Jones’ family. “It is with deep sadness that the Pelicans organization acknowledges the sudden passing of Bryce Dejean-Jones. We are devastated at the loss of this young man’s life who had such a promising future ahead of him. Our thoughts and prayers are with Bryce’s family during this difficult time.”
