Jada Pinkett Smith Shares Sweet Afeni Shakur Memory

Jada Pinkett Smith Afeni ShakurAfeni Shakur’s death certainly rocked the black community, moving one of Tupac’s old friends, Jada Pinkett Smith, to post a sweet note to fans in her memory.

Pinkett Smith and Tupac Shakur met while they both attended the Baltimore School for the Arts, and remained friends up until Tupac’s 1996 death. During their friendship, the actress also grew close with his mother Afeni, so when the actress learned of her sudden passing, she took to Facebook to share her feelings with fans.

The star shared that when she learned of Afeni’s passing, she was in New York, attending VH1’s Dear Mama event, which was named after Tupac’s hit single about Afeni. “Today I woke up to the news that Afeni had passed,” she wrote. “My first thought was of Sekyiwa and the entire clan that loved Afeni. Then I remembered that I was in NY to attend a Mother’s Day event named after a song written about Afeni, Dear Mama. My heart tightened and then all kinds of memories flooded in. I quickly remembered how calm Afeni was especially during any crisis. She always had a way of making me believe all would be well.”
