‘Hamilton’ Breaks Tony Award Nomination Record


Tony Award nominations have been revealed and Hamilton leads the way with a record breaking number of 16 noms.

The musical tells the life story of Alexander Hamilton, the “unlikely founding father determined to make his mark on the new nation”, and has been receiving non-stop critical acclaim since its debut in 2015. Now, the show has broken records previously held by The Producers (2001) and Billy Elliot (2009), both of which landed 15 Tony nominations. If Hamilton ends up taking home more than 12 awards, they’ll also break The Producer’s record for most wins.

The nominations include Best Musical, Best Performance By an Actor, Best Book of a Musical, Best Original Score for Theater and more.
