As the news of Prince’s death continues to affect the world, tributes are beginning to pour in, and when the casts of The Color Purple and Hamilton got word of the star’s passing during their shows on Thursday, they took to the stages for an impromptu expression of thanks.
The talented performers in both musicals wasted no time celebrating the life of one of the greatest musical artists ever on the day that his death was confirmed. The cast of The Color Purple sang the classic “Purple Rain”, with star Jennifer Hudson declaring, “His music will live on and he will live with his music, so we want to keep him alive today!”, while Hamilton‘s performers sang and danced to “Let’s Go Crazy.”
Hamilton creator Lin Manuel Miranda also took to social media to express his shock over the artist’s sudden death, saying that he was “gutted.”
"Dearly beloved
We are gathered here today
2 get through this thing called Life…"
