Drake Covers SLAM Magazine with Toronto Raptors’ Star Ballers

Drake Back To Back

Now that he’s conquered the hip-hop game, Drake is setting his sights on the sports world.

The 29-year-old rapper and Toronto Raptors Global Ambassador appears on the cover of the Playoff Issue of SLAM magazine, along with Raptors stars DeMar Derozan and Kyle Lowry. Drake is only the second non-athlete to grace the cover of the iconic magazine. The first being Drake’s mentor and University of Kentucky coach John Calipari.

Shot by photographer Atiba Jefferson, the cover features a dashing Drizzy in a suit and the young Raptors in their black-and-gold uniforms with the tagline “6 Gods.”

The decision to include Drake in the cover wasn’t one made lightly.  SLAM editor-in-chief Ben Osborne explained the thought process in choosing the hip hop superstar for the cover. “It had to be the right rapper, which Drake, with his millions of fans, upcoming album and official role as the Raptors Global Ambassador, is,” he explained. “And it had to be the right players, which Kyle and DeMar, fresh off their All-Star spots and still hungry for their first SLAM cover, certainly are.”

The issue hits newsstands next week.
