Atlanta Traffic Reporter’s Awesome Phife Dawg Tribute Goes Viral

Mark Arum

As the tributes to A Tribe Called Quest’s Phife Dawg continue to roll in, Atlanta news station WSB-TV has dropped one of the most uniquely touching ones so far.

Long-time WSB-TV traffic reporter and self-proclaimed fan of the legendary rap group Mark Arum was personally touched by the death of Phife Dawg on Wednesday, so he decided to pay tribute by inserting lyrics from the group into his traffic reports that day, along with a little help from co-anchor Fred Blankenship.

“Phife and Tribe were the soundtrack of my youth,” Arum told BuzzFeed of his inspired tribute. “I was crushed when I heard the news this morning just before we went on the air. I wanted to pay tribute to him somehow, so I just decided to mix in some of his lyrics into my traffic reports.”

The 45-year-old rap icon passed away due to “complications resulting from diabetes” with his family releasing a statement saying, ” “Malik was our loving husband, father, brother and friend. We love him dearly. How he impacted all our lives will never be forgotten. His love for music and sports was only surpassed by his love of God and family.”
