Did Beyonce Destroy Bradley Cooper’s ‘A Star Is Born’ Remake?

Bradley Cooper’s directorial debut has fallen apart and Beyonce might be to blame.

The 34-year-old superstar was in talks to star in Cooper’s remake of the 1950s musical A Star Is Born, but lost the role because she wanted to much money, according to Page Six. “Beyoncé wanted too much money, and Warner Bros. balked at her price. The production budget was also said to be an issue with the studio, so the project has fallen apart,” a source says.

Cooper, 40, has been trying for some time to get the project off the ground, but this major roadblock seems to have put his plans on hold a little longer.“Bradley has started reading scripts for his next acting project. But the Star Is Born project remains in development and Bradley is still involved,” a source told Page Six.

Clint Eastwood was set to direct the remake back in 2011 and Beyoncé’s name was first mentioned as the female lead. Tom Cruise, Will Smith, Christian Bale and Leonardo DiCaprio were reportedly circling as the male lead, but Eastwood ended up abandoning the project when it kept getting delayed.

In 2014, Cooper, who’s been thinking of directing for some time, picked the project as his directorial debut, following the success of American Sniper, also made with Warner Bros.

The actor has previously come out denying Beyonce’s involvement in the project at all, telling E! News that her being cast was “Just a rumor,” but if no contracts were signed at the time, it’s possible he wasn’t able to confirm the information. It looks like now we’ll never know.
