Queen Latifah’s ‘Bessie’ Wins Big at the Creative Emmy Awards

Queen Latifah’s HBO film Bessie won a total of four awards at the Creative Arts Emmys, held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Saturday (September 12).

The biopic starring Latifah as blues singer Bessie Smith won “Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Limited Series or a Movie,” “Outstanding Music Composition for a Limited Series, Movie or a Special (Original Dramatic Score)” and “Outstanding Cinematography for a Limited Series or Movie.”

The film, which was executive produced by Latifah, also included appearances by  Mike Epps, Mo’Nique, Tika Sumpter and Khandi Alexander.

For the Emmys, Latifah is up for outstanding lead actress in a limited series or a movie for Bessie.

The Emmy will air live on September 20 at 8 p.m. EST on Fox.
