Baltimore Riots: City Left in Chaos After Rioting

Baltimore riots

The city of Baltimore is left in disarray after a day and night of rioting.

In the last 24 hours, rioters have burned cars and buildings, looted businesses and beaten bystanders as well as police.

The riots began hours after Freddie Gray, 25, was laid to rest. The African-American man sustained a fatal spinal injury while in police custody and died at a hospital one week later on April 19.

The day and night saw 202 arrests, 144 vehicle fires and 19 structure fires, according to city spokesman Kevin Harris. The city’s police commissioner added that at least 15 officers were wounded in the chaos, six of them seriously.

A day later, Baltimore is covered in ashes as charred cars and buildings can be seen throughout the city.

Hundreds of rifle-toting national Guard members have began deploying to Baltimore, taking posts in the areas that had been the scene of yesterday’s events.
