Sundance Breakout ‘Dope’ Gets First Trailer


It was a critic hit and audience favorite at the Sundance Film Festival, and now DOPE has an official trailer.

Written and directed by Rick Famuyiwa (The Wood, Brown Sugar), the synopsis for the hip-hop driven film reads as follows:

 Malcolm (Shameik Moore) is carefully surviving life in a tough neighborhood in Los Angeles while juggling college applications, academic interviews, and the SAT. A chance invitation to an underground party leads him into an adventure that could allow him to go from being a geek, to being dope, to ultimately being himself.

The film is narrated by Forrest Whitaker and also stars Zoë Kravitz, Kimberly Elise, , Chanel Iman, Keith Stanfield, Blake Anderson and A$AP Rocky in his film debut.

DOPE is to be released by Open Road films and slated to hit theaters on June 19.
