Kendrick Lamar Sets New Record With Spotify Streams

Kendrick Lamar is making Spotify history since his new album, To Pimp a Butterfly, unexpectedly dropped late Sunday night.

The digital-streaming service announced on Tuesday that Butterfly was streamed over 9.6 million times on its first day, becoming “a new global record for the most streams in a single day worldwide,” according to a Spotify spokesperson.

Butterfly may just beat Drake’s If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late record for most album streams in its first week, which racked up 17.3 million streams over three days.

Lamar’s 16-track album opens with “Wesley’s Theory,” featuring George Clinton and Thundercat, among collaborations with Snoop Dogg, Bilal, Anna Wise, Ronal Isley and Rapsody.

Butterfly is listed for pre-order on iTunes with only the first single, “The Blacker the Berry,” available for download. However, you can listen to the album in full via Spotify.
