Empire Soundtrack

Empire has already been praised week after week for its record-breaking television ratings, and now the hot Fox series has another accolade to celebrate. The series’ original soundtrack debuted at the No.1 spot on the Billboard 200, beating out Madonna’s latest studio album, Rebel Heart.

The Empire soundtrack was released March 10 through Columbia Records and bows with 130,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending March 15, according to Nielsen Music. It marks the first TV soundtrack to debut at No. 1 since 2010 when three different Glee albums premiered atop the list, according to Billboard.

Empire’s soundtrack hails songs featured on the show, such as “What Is Love,” “Drip Drop,” “Whatever Makes You Happy” and “Conqueror” with featuring contributions from hit-makers like Jennifer Hudson, Mary J. Blige, Estelle, Rita Ora, Juicy J and Courtney Love. The album is mostly comprised of songs from the show’s music supervisor, Timbaland, and his protégé, Jim Beanz.

The two-hour, first-season finale of Empire airs Wednesday (March 18) on Fox at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
