‘SNL’ Spoofs ‘Empire’ and Iggy Azalea

SNL Empire

Saturday Night Live tackled spoofs of both Empire and Iggy Azalea on Saturday’s (March 7) episode of the sketch comedy show.

Empire is one of the most talked about shows out right now, so it’s not surprising that the hit Fox show made it’s way into one of SNL‘s sketches. Focusing on the character that the all black cast lacks, SNL introduced Chip: the stereotypical white guy.

Chip, portrayed by host of the night Chris Hemsworth, joined as the new office manager for the family-owned, drama-filled record label. Over the course of the skit, Chip is placed in various scenarios seen on the show, such as witnessing Cookie played by Sasheer Zamata beating Hakeem for being disrespectful.

Keenan Thompson took on the role of Lucious Lyon while Leslie Jones nailed the persona of Cookie’s assistant Porsha.

In the same night, the team took on Iggy Azalea. By now, the Austrailian rapper’s authenticity as well as her contribution– if any– to hip hop has been questioned by the masses, so SNL took their turn.

In a sketch titled “The Iggy Azalea Show,” Kate McKinnon plays the “Fancy” rapper who sporadically jumps from an innocent Aussie girl to hood rapper within moments. The clip also features her rap nemesis Azealia Banks (played by Sasheer Zamata) and Jay Pharoah as T.I., Iggy’s mentor and boss.
