The YouTube Music Awards debuted 50 honorees yesterday, which included mainstream artists like Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, Drake and Rihanna among YouTube-originated musical stars like Pentatonix and Lindsey Stirling.
Winners of the 2015 YouTube Music Awards were selected based on subscribers, views and engagement over the last six months on YouTube. Collectively, the 50 honorees have more than 164 million subscribers and 47 billion video views to date.
Unlike the inaugural YouTube Music Awards ceremony that featured performances by Eminem and Lady Gaga in 2013, this year’s “show” will not include a live ceremony. Instead, viewers are encouraged to watch the award show page for a one-day music takeover of the site with exclusive music videos by some of the honorees and emerging artists.
Vice Media, which has been enlisted to produce the event with A-list music video directors, will debut the whole project at 10 a.m. on March 23.
