Paula Patton Lands Leading Role In ABC Drama ‘Runner’

Following an extensive casting search that spanned two seasons and two networks, ABC’s Runner has officially found its leading lady.

Paula Patton will be taking us into the world of weapons and drug cartels, reported The Hollywood Reporter. Based on the Turkish series Son, the drama revolves around a woman named Lauren Marks (Patton), who believes her life is perfect until a commercial plane with her husband goes down.

Just when she feels like her life is crashing down along with it, Lauren finds out that her husband never boarded the plane before she goes down a trail of lies that take her into the world of cartels and the illegal gun trade between the U.S. and Mexico.

Runner marks Patton’s first-ever TV series as a regular. The drama originally made offers to several actresses, including Christina Applegate, Katie Holmes, Mireille Enos and Jessica Biel, but did not move forward until this season when it earned an official pilot order with ABC in January.
