Official Trailer for N.W.A’s Biopic ‘Straight Outta Compton’ Debuts

 Straight Outta Compton Biopic

Late last year, unofficial footage of the trailer for the upcoming NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton made its way online. Now, the official trailer for the upcpming film has debuted.

The film follows the iconic group on their journey to stardom and throughout their career. The Universal Pictures project is directed by F. Gary Gray, with O’Shea Jackson Jr., Corey Hawkins and Jason Mitchell as Ice Cube, Dr. Dre and Eazy-E, respectively.

The trailer opens with an introduction from Dr. Dre and Ice Cube, who have produced the film along with Eazy-E’s widow Tomica Woods-Wright. As they drive through the streets of Compton,  they explain what their music meant to them.

“We put it all into music – our frustration and anger. Our music was like our weapon,” they say. “That’s the most powerful weapon we’ve got.”

Rappers The Game and Kendrick Lamar make cameos in the introduction to discuss how the NWA movement affected their lives– as both rappers are Compton natives.

“When I think of N.W.A, it wasn’t even music to me, it was a real lifestyle,” Lamar says. “Brothas from my neighborhood that made it out.”

After the introduction, the trailer then switches to scenes from the film itself.

Directed by F. Gary Gray, Straight Outta Compton hits theaters August 14, 2015.
