Eddie Murphy to Return to ‘SNL’ for Anniversary Special

Eddie Murphy is making a return to Saturday Night Live for the first time in over 30 years. The comedy legend will appear on the 40th anniversary special of the NBC sketch comedy show.

Murphy revealed the news in a phone interview with News One Now. “It just never worked out where the timing was right for me to do it,” Murphy said, explaining his three-decade absence. “They’re having a 40th anniversary. … I’m going to that. And that will be the first time I’ve been back since I left.”

Murphy propelled to fame as a cast member of SNL from 1981-1984. His last appearance on the sketch comedy show was on Dec. 15, 1984, 10 months after he departed to launch his movie career.

The Saturday Night Live 40th anniversary special will air live at 8 p.m. ET Feb. 15 on NBC.
