Shonda Rhimes Hints At ‘Scandal’ B613 Spinoff

Scandal mastermind Shonda Rhimes may have a spinoff in mind for the show’s notorious B613 clan.

On the ABC political drama, Olivia Pope and her Gladiators have made numerous attempts to apprehend Papa Pope and shutdown B613- all to no avail. Despite the vile of the organization’s actions, you can’t deny the thrill it adds to the series or help but be obsessed with what the next move will be. Even Rhimes admits to being obsessed.

“I have my own obsessions with B613 that are probably unhealthy,” Rhimes tells The Hollywood Reporter. “I have like three versions of a B613 spinoff in my head that I obsess about constantly.”

Little is known about the backstory of B613 and its alums so expanding a story wouldn’t be a difficult task for Rhimes with her awesome writing skills, but she says juggling the demands of three shows- Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy and How to Get Away With Murder- is enough for now.

“I have some jobs, as you may notice, and not a lot of time to do some new jobs,” she joked. “The last time I had three shows [Grey’s, Scandal and Private Practice] I created on the air at the same time, I promised myself I’d never do that again — so right now, I’m good.”

As for the future on Scandal, Shonda says that it’s not a series that will have a lifespan comparable to that of Grey’s Anatomy, which is currently in its 11th season. Rhimes previously stated that Scandal wasn’t a “10-season or eight-season show” and reiterated on Wednesday that she has an ending in mind.

“We’re telling a story and it’s a very particular story and I don’t think you could go, ‘Now this other person is Olivia Pope.’ It’s not that kind of story; I think there’s an end to it that is important for us to get to,” she said.

Well, when Scandal ends does that mean B613 spinoff? Guess we’ll just have to wait and see!
