Zendaya Takes Over the Cover of ‘Teen Vogue’

Teen Vogue has dubbed 2015 as the year of Zendaya. The 18-year-old  Disney diva is the cover girl for the February issue for the magazine, and she serves tomboy-chic for the shoot.

The desert-inspired shoot, shot by photographer Boo George, features the young star styled in a military palette of browns and greens as she poses in California’s Mojave desert. Her G.I. Jane look include military helmets, combat jackets and rugged styles.

In the accompanying interview, Zendaya gives details on her new show, K.C. Undercover, which will be premiering this yearNot only will she be the star of the show, but she will also serve as co-producer.  The teen revealed that as she matures she hopes that her new show will appeal to a more mature audience.

“It was going to be called Super Awesome Katy, but I changed it,” the young star tells the publication. “I don’t look like a Katy, and I wanted something a little more mature. It wasn’t really right for the demographic that I’m trying to reach now.”

She added: “Well, the majority of my fan base are young girls, and I don’t want to leave that world forever,” she explains. “But I also want to reach the preteens, the teenagers. A lot of college students watch the Disney Channel in their dorms, actually.”

Along with her new TV series, the actor turned singer will also be working on her next album. With her sophomore album, she hopes to make an evolution in her sound by adding more R&B.

“I want to make R&B with a touch of pop, rather than pop with a touch of R&B,” she says. “It’ll be a little more urban, something my fellow 18-year-olds are going to want to bump to in their cars rather than feel like they have to turn it down as soon as someone else gets in. I want them to be able to be like, ‘Yo, I’m listening to Zendaya!'”

New music is expected to drop in early 2015 via Republic Records.
