John Legend, Common Perform “Glory” On ‘GMA’

Count on John Legend and Common to craft the inspirational song that sets the theme for Selma, a biopic based on Martin Luther King, Jr. and the campaign that ultimately led to the passage of equal voting rights. The duo took it a step further in classy black suits and Legend on the keys alongside violinists and back-up singers for a live performance of “Glory” on Good Morning America.

The freedom-fighter song was released in December, and has since picked up a Golden Globe nomination for Best Original Song, while the civil rights drama is a front runner for the upcoming Oscars.

“I don’t even know if I can express how excited I am to be nominated for a Golden Globe alongside John Legend for our song ‘Glory.’ To be here with John Legend, whom I love and respect so much, makes the moment even more meaningful,” said Common in a statement. “We created ‘Glory’ from our hearts and being a part of Selma has been a life changing experience.”

The film hit a limited number of theaters on Christmas Day, and will be released across the country on Jan. 9. Film stars include David Oleyowo, Oprah Winfrey, Cuba Gooding, Jr., Tom Wilkinson, Ava DuVernay and Common himself.
