Phaedra Parks Talks Apollo Nida’s Arrest: ‘I Though He Had Changed’

Phaedra Parks on Ellen

Phaedra Parks has finally broken her silence. The “Real Housewives  of Atlanta” star appeared on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” on Wednesday (Oct. 15), and spoke about her estranged husband Apollo Nida’s incarceration and their pending divorce.

Parks denies knowing anything about her soon-to-be ex-husband’s criminal activities, and says she was blindsided by everything.

“I didn’t have any idea this was going on until he called me and he said ‘I’ve been arrested and I’m having this problem, but it’s not true,'” she told DeGeneres.

Nida reported to prison last month to begin an eight-year prison stint after pleading guilty to fraud this past May.

Though Parks acknowledges that Nida was on parole from a previous conviction when the couple first met and later married in 2009, she says she accepted his past because she believed he had changed. She even stood by him when he first informed her of his most recent charges.

“Well, to be honest, he had been to prison,” she explains. “But he was a changed person, so the person I married, I thought he had changed.”

She added: “I went out of my way to get him the best attorneys, the best investigators, and to do everything I could,” Parks explained. “I’m an attorney myself and so I wanted him to have the best so we could fight this together, but obviously it did not turn out like that.”

Things clearly changed at some point because she was noticeably absent from Nida’s July sentence hearing, and has since filed for divorce.

Now, Parks is focusing on raising their two sons, Ayden and Dylan, alone and says, “It is extremely hard. My heart aches for my two sons. They are the heart and soul of who I am. That’s the best thing that we ever did together.”
