NFL Fines Colin Kaepernick For Wearing “Beats by Dre” Headphones

We just told you about the NFL ban on “Beats by Dre” headphones yesterday, but it seems like the league is cracking down on enforcing the new policy already because San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has been fined $10,000 for wearing the Beats headphones at a post-game conference, according to the Associated Press.

Bose recently became the NFL’s exclusive headphone provider, and as part of the deal, the league announced a ban on all other headphone brands from being televised during interviews.

However, Kaepernick has an endorsement deal with Beats and has even appeared in a commercial for the brand. In honor of October’s breast cancer awareness month, the athlete sported a pink version of the Beats headphones after a 22-17 win on Sunday. He declined to comment on whether or not the fine would be covered by Beats by telling reporters, “We’ll let that be unanswered.”

The NFL emphasized that the new rule is its own, and not one dictated by Bose: “The NFL has longstanding policies that prohibit branded exposure on-field or during interviews unless authorized by the league.”

It’ll be interesting to see if Kaepernick keeps wearing the headphones because he can be sure that the NFL will keep fining him if he does!

Do you think he should be fined? Tell us your thoughts below!
