BBC released an extraordinary version of the Beach Boys’ 1966 classic “God Only Knows” to launch BBC Music in England, which the company describes as “an ambitious wave of new programs, innovative partnerships and ground-breaking music initiatives that amount to the BBC’s strongest commitment to music in 30 years,” according to The Guardian.

The music video features the 80-piece BBC Concert Orchestra and 27 musicians from a wide range of genres described to be depicted as an “Impossible Orchestra.” Opening with Pharrell Williams, other artists seen in the musical production include Stevie Wonder, Sam Smith, Emeli Sandé, One Direction, Lorde and many more!

“There were surprisingly few songs to choose from. We got it down to about six, including a couple of Kinks tracks, a Beatles track and a couple of David Bowie tracks,” Sam Walker, executive creative director at Karmarama, the London advertising agency tasked with producing the video, told the Creative Review blog. “We were aiming for something that would appeal to as many people as possible so hopefully we chose well.”

The beautiful video was shot in London’s Alexandra Palace Theater, where the backdrop transformed through CGI animation as the song progressed. It was the same location of BBC’s first broadcast more than 90 years ago.
