Donald Glover (Childish Gambino) Lands Role in ‘Magic Mike XXL’

Just yesterday Michael Strahan confirmed his upcoming role in “Magic Mike XXL,” and now the cast just got a little bigger with the addition of Donald Glover, who is also known by his stage name Childish Gambino.

The official synopsis of the sequel film reads:

Picking up the story three years after Mike bowed out of the stripper life at the top of his game, Magic Mike XXL finds the remaining Kings of Tampa likewise ready to throw in the towel. But they want to do it their way: burning down the house in one last blow-out performance in Myrtle Beach, and with legendary headliner Magic Mike sharing the spotlight with them. On the road to their final show, with whistle stops in Jacksonville and Savannah to renew old acquaintances and make new friends, Mike and the guys learn some new moves and shake off the past in surprising ways.

Not much has been revealed about Glover’s role in the film, but he will be joining original stars Channing Tatum, Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello, Alex Pettyfer and Gabriel Iglesias. (Matthew McConaughey is not reprising his role.) The newcomers include Strahan, Jada Pinkett Smith, Amber Heard and Elizabeth Banks.

Glover’s previous acting credits include “Community,” “Girls” and his very own short film “Clapping for the Wrong Reasons.”

The 2012 released “Magic Mike” grossed over $160 million worldwide. “Magic Mike XXL” is set for release on July 1, 2015.
