“Orange Is the New Black” star Laverne Cox will host a documentary next month that profiles the lives of transgender youth.
The one-hour special, “Laverne Cox Presents: The T Word,” will take viewers into the the lives of seven transgender youth, ranging from age 12 to 24 from across the country. Each will talk about their journey as they overcome challenges such as coming out, bullying and learning to be confident in themselves.
“For many of us, the ‘T’ in LGBT means more than transgender, it also means truth,” Cox said in a statement. “The cast members in this documentary are fearlessly living their truths and in sharing their stories will send the message to other trans youth that it’s OK to be who you are.”
The show will air simultaneously on MTV and Logo TV at 7 p.m. on Oct. 17, a day after LGBT Spirit Day.
Following the documentary’s premiere, Logo and MTV’s website will air an hour-long “Trans Forum,” hosted by Cox and MTV personality SuChin Pak. The hosts and the documentary’s cast members will answer questions from viewers about their lives.
