Mike Tyson Curses Canadian Reporter On Live TV

Warner Bros. At Comic-Con International 2014

Professional boxer Mike Tyson went off on Toronto’s CP24 reporter Nathan Downer during a live interview on Wednesday (Sept. 10) when he made a reference to Tyson’s rape conviction.

Downer made mention of the athlete’s recent interaction with Toronto Mayor Rob Ford, but started the interview’s downward spiral when he asked Tyson whether he thought his criminal record was damaging to the mayor’s reputation. Keep in mind that the mayor admitted to smoking crack during one of his “drunken stupors.”

“Some of your critics would say, ‘This is a race for mayor, we know you’re a convicted rapist, this could hurt his campaign.’ How would you respond to that?” asked Downer.

Nonetheless, bewildered by the question, Tyson promptly began with a calm response at first that soon turned into a barrage of expletive-laden insults directed at the reporter.

“Who said that? You’re the only one I heard say that. I don’t have no comment to that, because it’s negative. You’re being negative.”

Letting the question sink in, the boxer became enraged, saying: “It’s so interesting because you come across like a nice guy, but you’re really a piece of s***. F*** you, that was a piece of s***.”

Downer remained calm under pressure and did his best to move past the incident by talking up Tyson’s one-man stage show Undisputed Truth, but had to cut to commercial because the boxer was not done with his rant. Nonetheless, Downer assure there are no hard feelings towards the professional athlete and took to his Twitter to address the situation.
