NeNe Leakes to Make Broadway Debut in ‘Cinderella’

Reality star NeNe Leakes will be heading to New York City later this year to play the wicked stepmother Madame in the Broadway version of “Cinderella,” which will conclude its run in January, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

While NeNe was not a part of the original cast, she will be taking over for Sherri Shepherd, who will perform Sept. 9 through Nov. 22. Currently in rehearsals, Leakes is preparing for her 11-week run beginning November 25.

NeNe’s Broadway experience will take her away from “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” for a little while, but it won’t be the first time Bravo producers have allowed the reality show alum to venture off into other arenas. Her other gigs include recurring acting roles on “Glee” and “The New Normal.” She has also appeared on reality shows “Celebrity Apprentice” in 2011 and “Dancing With the Stars” earlier this year.

Producers announced that “Cinderella” will end its two-year run at the Broadway Theatre on Jan. 3, 2015, after 770 regular performances and 41 previews.
