The Primetime Emmys aren’t until next week, but the first round of awards, dubbed the Creative Arts Emmys, honored television favorites Uzo Aduba and Joe Morton over the weekend.
At Saturday’s Awards, Uzo Aduba took home the Creative Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy for her breakout role as a prisoner known as “Crazy Eyes” in Netflix’s popular show “Orange is the New Black.” She beat out five other women for the award, including costars Laverne Cox and Natasha Lyonne.
“I don’t know how to say how incredibly impressed I am to be a part of this show day in, day out,” said a teary-eyed Aduba from the podium after presenter Morgan Freeman handed the emotional actress her award.
Backstage, the 33-year-old found herself on the verge of tears as she expressed her sentiment. “I feel so full, that’s why the tears come out,” she told reporters, adding: “I’m stuffed. My cup runneth over right now. Mission accomplished, thank you.”
Another notable winner of the night was Joe Morton of ABC’s “Scandal.” He took home an award for Outstanding Guest actor in a Drama Series for his role as Rowan Pope on the hit series.
“It’s an incredible feeling to have been in the business this long — this is the first time I’ve been up for one of these things. And given who I was quote unquote up against, it’s terrific.”
The Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony is set for Monday, Aug. 25.
