Denzel Washington, Don Cheadle Film ‘Devil In A Blue Dress’ Coming To Broadway

The book-turned-film starring Denzel Washington and Don Cheadle is joining forces with jazz musician/composer Branford Marsalis to bring “Devil in a Blue Dress” to the Great White Way.

The popular film was based on the noir novel about a man in 1948 Los Angeles, who takes up work as a private detective after losing his aerospace manufacturing job. The book’s author, Walter Mosely, recently revealed that an adaptation of the novel for Broadway production was on the way while promoting one of his new books, “Debbie Doesn’t Do It Anymore.”

Washington is keen on returning to the stage every few years, as stated in recent interviews, but Cheadle has never taken his talents to Broadway. Although he starred in Suzan-Lori Parks’ “Topdog/Underdog” during it’s off-Broadway success in 2011, the play moved to the big stage a year later with Mos Def replacing Cheadle. There is no word on if Washington and Cheadle will reprise their roles from the film, but production should begin within the next year.

Then again, “Devil in a Blue Dress” may decide to cast an entire array of new faces. Who knows?

What do you think about “Devil in a Blue Dress” coming to Broadway? Do you think Denzel Washington and Don Cheadle should reunite for the big stage? We want to know!
