The NBA 2K franchise raised the bar when Jay Z executively produced the 2K13 soundtrack with artists like Kanye West and Nas. LeBron James built the star-studded musical lineup the following year for the 2K14 roster, and now Pharrell Williams takes the reigns in curating the NBA 2K15 soundtrack.

He probably didn’t realize he’d be getting a very special submission from the legendary Shaquille O’Neal, who first unveiled his rap game in 1993. The former NBA player released his album, Shaq Diesel, which managed to go platinum with two singles featured in the Billboard Hot 100 (“I Know I Got Skillz” at No. 35 and “I’m Outstanding” at No. 47).

NBA 2k15 will launch on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC on Oct. 7. The soundtrack will be the largest of all the NBA 2K games up to date.

“I tried to pick an alternative approach because how do you follow up LeBron and Jay,” said Williams about creating a musical lineup after Jay Z and LeBron James took the reigns in 2K13 and 2K14.  “There are girls that play the game and there’s a lot of girls that are around it… so I thought it’d be such an interesting twist to have the girls weigh in on the song list because they listen to it just as much.”

The songs in the soundtrack will be released later in the summer.
