Aubree Butts (L), a Lewisville graduate and Devin Oliver (R), a Rowlett alumna were
both star
high school basketball players and members of the Texas A&M-Commerce women’s
basketball team. The two were killed in a car accident Tuesday night.

Two young members of the Texas A&M University-Commerce women’s basketball team were killed in a motor vehicle crash in Paris on June 3.

Devin Oliver of Rowlett, 21, was pronounced dead at the scene. Aubree Butts of Lewisville, 20, died after arriving at the Paris Regional Medical Center.

Two other girls were injured. La’Tisha Hearne of Richardson, 21, and Zenobia Winbush of Schertz, 19, were also in the 2007 Nissan Maxima sedan at the time the four-door car collided with an 18-wheeler headed east on Loop 286.

Witnesses say the car, driven by Hearne, was stopped at the stop sign before pulling in front of the Freightliner, driven by Brian Lile of Chickasha, Oklahoma. The tractor trailer truck struck the sedan in the passenger side before knocking it off the road. Lile pulled off the road immediately after the collision, according to witness accounts.

“This is an unspeakable tragedy and a loss that is felt by the entire university community,” A&M-Commerce President Dr. Dan Jones said in a release. “It is made more grievous by the dreams that will not be fulfilled. Our prayers go out to the loved ones of those we have lost.”

Butts was a sophomore guard at TAMU-Commerce and formerly a four-year starter at Lewisville. Oliver was a junior guard, who started all 27 games for Commerce this season, and played as Rowlett’s leading scorer during the 2010-11 seasons.
