Nicki Minaj has given fans a return of her rougher, hardcore style of her early mixtapes with most recent songs “Lookin’ Ass N***a,” “Yasss Bish!” and “Chi-Raq,” but with her newest single, “Pills n Potions,” she takes a break from aggressive lyrics to show her softer side.
Produced by Dr. Luke and co-written by Ester Dean, the reflective single makes it clear that the YMCMB first lady is willing to forgive, but won’t necessarily forget as she sings, “Pills and potions, we’re overdosing/ I’m angry, but I still love you.”
One of her most personal songs to date, the MC has called the single “a true story” and “my heart n soul.”
Minaj first dropped the the song’s title and hinted toward the release of the single Sunday night at the Billboard Music Awards. “It sounds like urgency,” Minaj said. “It sounds like betrayal. It sounds like running. It sounds like fainting. It sounds like love. It sounds like — *gasp!*”
‘Pills n Potions” is reportedly the first single off of her upcoming third album, Pink Print, which is due for release later this year.
