NFL Players Warn Rookies About Excessive Spending

With the 2014 NFL draft officially over, the NFL rookies are headed down the path for a lifestyle that is completely new to them and ex-players have some important advice for them: manage their money wisely.

Jadeveon Clowney, NFL’s top draft pick, landed a contract that totals around $22 million with the Houston Texans. With his face everywhere and his name trending on Twitter last week, it’s likely that endorsements and other contracts are coming his way.

Like Clowney, other draft picks have more money now than they’ve ever seen, but lack the proper money management skills.

According to an analysis by Sports Illustrated, just two years after their athletic careers end, 78 percent of former NFL players are bankrupt or nearly there.
