Disney Channel Sitcom To Star Zendaya In New Family Comedy Series

2014 MTV Movie Awards - Red Carpet

It looks like Zendaya is staying in the TV business!

The young actress and recording artist will headline and co-produce a new family comedy series titled K.C. Undercover. The 17-year-old actress will star as a high school student training to follow in her parents’ footsteps as an undercover spy.

“This show has all of the Disney Channel attributes,” said Adam Bonnet, the channel’s executive vice president. “[It has] family, friendship, humor and heart from the point of view of an incredibly talented and relatable teenage girl.”

Zendaya spent three years on Disney Channel’s sitcom Shake It Up. The show featured two best friends who land a slot on a TV dance show. She challenged her skills on the dance floor when she became a contestant on Dancing With the Stars at age 16. Zendaya was ultimately the runner-up behind the season winner, country singer Kellie Pickler.

“I’ve worked with her since she was 12 years old, and have witnessed her blossom into such a beautiful, talented and funny actress,” said the creator/executive producer of K.C. Undercover, Rob Lotterstein, who also worked behind Shake It Up.

The K.C. Undercover comedy series will begin filming this summer, and is set to premiere early 2015.
