Michael Strahan Finalizing Deal To Co-Host ‘Good Morning America’

86th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

Former NFL player and current co-host of Live! With Kelly & Michael is on the verge of tacking a new job. Michael Strahan is finalizing details to double-duty on ABC as a part-time co-host on Good Morning America with George Stephanopoulos, Amy Robach, Robin Roberts, Lara Spencer and weather forecaster Ginger Zee. The news network has been interested in bringing Strahan to the show since he substituted for Roberts last year when she took leave to wage her public battle with myelodysplastic syndrome.

The 42-year-old TV personality vowed to his ‘Live’ fans that leaving Ripa’s side was not an option:

“I just want everyone to know and [Kelly] to know that no matter what, this is my number one priority, and you [Kelly] are my number one priority, and I would never do anything to jeopardize the quality of what I do here.”

Strahan is a former New York Giants defensive end who continues to work as an analyst for Fox NFL Sunday, and was somewhat of a surprise pick to replace Regis Philbin alongside Ripa. However, he proven capable of appealing during the daytime arena as well as the female demographic that make up the bulk of television viewers in the morning.
