John Legend Launches Intimate “An Evening With John Legend” Tour

"The Night That Changed America: A GRAMMY Salute To The Beatles" - Fixed Show

Since the love song’s release in August, John Legend’s simple piano ballad “All of Me” has become the artist’s highest-charting single to date (hitting No. 3 as of last week). The ode was written for Legend’s longtime girlfriend recently turned wife, Chrissy Teigen.

Legend told Billboard magazine that he’d told his label that the song had potential to be the biggest song of his career if it was done right. In comparison to Pharrell Williams’ “Happy” and Katy Perry’s sub-bass melodrama “Dark Horse, it’s challenging to chart a modern soul vocal into the mix.

“People are used to music that makes them dance, but every once in a while, you want to hear something that pierces your heart,” Legend said regarding his album of soul music. “I understand the tradition that I come from… but I also wanted to take it forward, continue to make it feel fresh, not just kind of a nostalgic music but a music of now and of the future.”

Legend launched his 2014 North American “An Evening with John Legend: The All of Me Tour” this week, where the production will consist of only Legend’s piano, vocals, a guitar, and string quartet accompaniment for the night. His tour stop at Gallo Center for the Arts on March 29 sold out within 30 minutes tickets went on sale.
