A woman’s hair is her crown of glory. Many women invest a grave amount of time, energy, and money into their hair, but for women on television…the pressure is immensely intensified. Tennessee news anchor Pam McKelvy shares a vulnerable moment on live television in hopes of inspiring young women that hair is not everything.

McKelvy battled breast cancer since 2012, where she lost her hair after undergoing chemo therapy. The news anchor wore a wig during her recovery from the double mastectomy that eliminated the cancer since last March, but in a moving testimony on air, McKelvy removed it to showcase her new and natural hair for the audience to see.

“I want everybody to know that no matter what you go through, it’s not about what’s on the outside, it’s about what’s on the inside,” she said while dabbing tears from her eyes. “And I feel that on the inside I am more radiant and beautiful than I’ve ever been.”

Indeed she was! Supported by her fellow co-anchors, McKelvy’s message was beautiful — as was her new hairdo!
