Meet Zaire Holmes: the winner of Juicy J’s $50,000 “twerking” scholarship. And guess what? She didn’t even have to twerk to win.

Last August, rapper Juicy J announced via twitter that he was offering a $50,000 scholarship for the best twerk performance, but the idea of twerking for a scholarship did not sit well with some. As a result the, the rapper clarified the rules of the contest.

“You don’t have to be able to twerk to win this $50,000 dollar scholarship.” Juicy explained to XXL mag. “Just submit a video telling me “Why do you deserve this $50,000 scholarship?” It’s not all about dancing and twerking. It’s about your personality. So I want people to know that if you want to twerk that’s on you but you don’t have to do that to win that scholarship. You can just send me a video of showing me how smart you are or what your goals in life are for me to give you this money. It’s for people who use their brains, too.”

Zaire Holmes, a 19-year-old mother and full time student at the State College of Florida, may have been one of few that actually read the complete rules of the competition that did not require any twerking to win.

The biology student submitted a video sharing her aspirations to be a doctor. She said her career path will require her to be in school for 11 years, and regular financial aid would not cover her expenses. She also had her teachers and peers speak on her behalf and share why they believed she deserved to win.

Juicy J unveiled Holmes as the winner in a video where he presented her with the $50,000 check that has been paid to State College of Florida toward Holmes’ 2015 tuition.

“My first reaction was I started screaming,” she said of becoming a finalist. “Blessings come to people who wait so I’m just going to be real chill and real humble.”
