SNL Alum Maya Rudolph To Get Her Own Variety Show

15th Annual Costume Designers Guild Awards With Presenting Sponsor Lacoste - Red Carpet

According to Deadline, ‘Bridesmaids’ star and former Saturday Night Live cast member, Maya Rudolph, will be returning to NBC with her own variety show.

The project is being executive produced by Rudolph and SNL’s head honcho Lorne Michaels and has been in the works for several months. NBC was one of several networks pursuing the unnamed project and eventually won out, ordering a pilot that is rumored to air after the Winter Olympics.

This announcement comes only weeks after widespread criticism of Michaels and SNL for the lack of diversity on the show’s cast. Currently, there are no African-American women on the show’s cast and the six cast members added this season are all white.

Maya Rudolph, the daughter of singer Minnie Ripperton, recently co-starred in the NBC sitcom Up All Night. She is best known for her portrayals of Whitney Huston, Beyoncé, Tina Turner, Oprah and more during her seven year stint on Saturday Night Live.
