Al Sharpton Meets With Barneys New York CEO On Racial Profiling

Yesterday, Al Sharpton met with Barneys New York CEO Mark Lee to discuss recent allegations of racial profiling by the high end retailer.

According to Sharpton, he and Lee had a very open and candid discussion in Sharpton’s National Action Network office in Harlem.

The allegations against Barneys were made last week by two black customers who were detained on suspicion of credit card fraud after lawfully purchasing items from the store. While initial investigations by Barneys showed that no employees were at fault in the matter, Lee has stated that they “want to be part of the solution” to racial profiling.

Macy’s flagship store in Manhattan has also come under similar scrutiny prompting the New York Attorney General’s office to request a meeting with executives at both stores to “assess their policies and their conduct in this regard.”

As for Sharpton, his private meeting with Lee has begun a much needed dialogue.
