The trailer for the sequel to ‘300’ was released Thursday by Warner Brothers Pictures. The film’s trailer picks up just after the end of the wildly popular original film with the opening scene showing Xerxes, the key villain played in the original film by Rodrigo Santoro, riding over various Spartan corpses to confirm the death of Leonidas. The voice-over for the trailer is no other than “Queen Gorgo” (Lena Headey) who can be heard rallying the troops for another epic battle. Headey returns as one of the film’s stars to reprise her role.

According to IMDB, the movie was initially going revolve almost exclusively around Xerxes and his military expeditions. The story was (unfortunately) changed significantly and the script was revised in subsequent drafts to have the subject matter focus on Athenian leader, Themistocles, played by Sullivan Stapleton (who recently played in ‘Gangster Squad’, ‘Animal Kingdom’, and ‘The Hunter’). The film will still cover some of the backstory of Xerxes, and delve into how he became ‘the god king’.

The movie, due to be released around March of 2014.
