Actress Cicely Tyson won the award for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play for her role in ‘The Trip to Bountiful’ at the 67th Annual Tony Awards in New York City on Sunday.

Dressed in a shiny purple ruffle dress, the 79-year-old was all smiles. She returned to Broadway this season for the first time in 30 years. Tyson beat out Laurie Metcalf, Amy Morton, Kristine Nielsen and Holland Taylor.

Tyson’s acceptance speech for the award was an emotional highlight of the event. But, Tyson’s speech was cut off by music when it started to get long. “‘Please wrap it up,’ it says,” Tyson said, referring to the teleprompter. “Well, that’s exactly what you did with me: You wrapped me up in your arms after 30 years.”

The actress plays a widow in 1953 whose only desire is to revisit her old home in Bountiful and recapture purpose she lost when she left for Houston.
