New York High School Under Fire Over Pep Rally Skit

Students at Waverly High School are facing a great deal of criticism as a video of a skit done at their homecoming rally last week goes viral.

The video shows three white male students, two in blackface, re-enacting the 2009 domestic abuse incident between singer Chris Brown and then-girlfriend Rihanna. The student who played Brown during the skit was in the running to win the school’s “Mr. Waverly” title.

After a Waverly High School alum posted a picture form the rally online, it went viral. Dozens took to Twitter to express their anger but some defended it. Some were adamant about this being a racist and even sexist act while others went on to defend the skit saying that it was meant to be taken light heartedly.
