Joseph Lowery Hospitalized After Dizzy Spell

Civil rights pioneer Rev. Joseph E. Lowery remained hospitalized Monday morning after suffering a dizzy spell and a fall following services Sunday at  Ebenezer Baptist Church  in Atlanta.

Lowery was at the church to serve as the keynote speaker for a special 11 a.m. service marking the church’s 123rd anniversary.

One churchgoer told Channel 2 Action News reporter Anissa Centers that Lowery, 87, did not appear to be in any distress. There are also conflicting reports about whether Lowery passed out.

An Atlanta Fire-Rescue Department representative told Channel 2 Action News that crews responded to the call, and that Lowery was alert, conscious and breathing.
